IWRC Training - Student Comments

Home > Training > Student Comments

IWRC was the first national, and then international, organization to develop training materials, and has been delivering Skills Seminars to wildlife professionals for more than two decades. As the field of wildlife rehabilitation grows and as new information becomes available, IWRC routinely updates its seminars, bringing to its students state-of-the-art protocols and instruction.

How does IWRC training compare?

“I went to the IWRC Basic Training, and it was absolutely the best training I’ve ever received anywhere!!! Lots of hands-on work as well as clear concise information. It was a pleasure to attend and I’d highly recommend it to anyone interested in wildlife rehabilitation.”

– Carol Oyaas, HT (ASCP)

“I was dreading the hands-on portion of the program even though I had already had some training in hydration therapy and tube feeding (birds) at the center where I volunteered. I had even performed these procedures, but my hands were always shaking because I was afraid I was hurting the animals. All of the hands-on work at the seminar was closely supervised and I received excellent coaching from my partner in the exercises. I gained confidence, knowing that being able to do these things routinely would save animal lives. I’d also had instruction in calculating drug dosages, but it was at this seminar that it finally made sense. I highly recommend this training for the exposure to the techniques as well as the confidence to perform them.”

– Gail Nelsen
“The IWRC Basic Skills seminar is flat-out WONDERFUL! The homework exercises are geared to solidifying a confidence in the information and skills presented. I have attended many conferences for this same dollar amount, but I have never left a conference with a feeling of as much (or
more) knowledge gained than from this IWRC Basic Skills Seminar. If you can only afford to attend one conference or seminar this year, the IWRC Basic Skills session would be the best choice by far!”

– Amy Cooper
“I have been rehabbing for more years than some of you have been alive. I have been fortunate to attend many different workshops on rehabilitation over all those years. The one that impressed me the most was the IWRC Basic Skills Seminar 1AB. Of course, as always happens, there is never enough time to cover it all but this is by far the most complete and well organized presentation I have ever attended.”

– Carol Hoopingarner
“In 1999 I attended the IWRC Basic Skills Seminar at the AHS. At that point in my life I had only helped Elyn (Kirchner) feed squirrels and clean cages. I couldn’t wait to learn more, so when the Seminar came along I signed up. What a wonderful experience that was! The instructors were terrific and the opportunity to work on animals was incredible. The training book alone was worth the price of admission. I would highly recommend the Seminar to all persons interested in the welfare of our wildlife. Hope to see you there!”
