The Canids (KAY-nids) are members of the dog family.  Besides all the domestic dogs,  there are 31 different species of Canids.

Canids are noted for their intelligence, strength and adaptability.  They exist everywhere - from the jungles of South America to the glaciers of Arctic Canada.

The smallFennec Foxes Picture from Birmingham Zooest canid is the Fennec Fox (a fox with really large ears ears that lives in the desert) weighing just 2 KG (4 lb,)  and the largest is the magnificGray Wolf from www.wolfcenter.orgent Gray Wolf, which can reach 80 KG (176 lb.) Some canids have been known to run as fast as 70 km/h (44 mph.) Canids are very often social animals, living and hunting in groups or pairs.  African hunting dogs have been known to travel in packs of hundreds!
